KEEP GOING!

If you’re going through a tough time – KEEP GOING.

We’ve all been there. That place that feels like the end of the road. That point in life where you feel as though you just don’t have the strength to go on. Whether you’re struggling with heartache, negativity, illness, personal turmoil, plans falling through, death of a loved one, feeling unworthy, loneliness, self-esteem, facing some sort of judgement, or something else… there is someone who’s been there.

Let this be a reminder that you are NOT alone. Other people have been there, of course they have never been in your shoes, so yes, your life is different, maybe you feel it is harder… but that does not mean that you are alone! Just because someone doesn’t understand doesn’t mean they don’t care… trust me, people care!

If I’ve learned anything through my life, or through watching those in my life, it’s that if we’re facing a difficult time, the only way to get through it is to KEEP GOING! Push through that damn dark cloud and find the ray of sunshine, cause I¬†promise you, it’s there.

Let those around you be your guiding stars. Let them lead you to the other side of that cloud. Just promise you won’t give up!

Suggestions:

– try finding something, one thing, that makes you smile. (maybe this?)

like seriously... haha

– tell someone you’re not feeling well, that life has got you down. It’s OKAY to let someone in, let them know you’re not okay. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help!

– laugh at something… laughter can do wonders, really, you should try it. (laugh at this?)

i've totally done this!

no worries, if you thought that was stupid… it was just an attempt… ūüôā

– acknowledge that these struggles in life are NORMAL! it’s okay to struggle from time to time. One of my favorite quotes is, “Pain is essential, suffering is optional.”

Stay positive!

Take a moment and think back to another time you felt run down. Did you make it through that event? If you’re reading this then I think you can answer “yes” to that question ūüėČ and be proud of that! Think about that time, think about how exhausted you may have felt… and then think about something happy that happened after it. Why? Well, because without overcoming the obstacle that stood in your way, you never would have had that happy moment.

Life has a way of knocking us down time and time again, and it will continue to do so. But how we handle those chaotic moments is what matters. We are in charge of our own lives.

So, no matter what you’re facing, the rest of the world is right there with you, promise. And if you still feel stuck tomorrow, still feel like you’re on a dead-end road, KEEP GOING and make your own path. Live your life in such a way that requires you to tell your own story, because you pushed through the storm and found that ray of sunshine.

You never know, your story may save someone someday.

Keep going, you’ve held on this long. Find that strength that’s buried deep down, tell yourself you’re strong enough, and press on!

… one day i’ll fly away…

pic I took of the sunset... only later would I see the two birds flying away together.

In the night of death, hope sees a star, and listening love can hear the rustle of a wing.  ~Robert Ingersoll

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow,
May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Art is Everywhere!

Art: (n) the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Art comes in many forms. It can be found in drawing, coloring, painting, the usual art mediums. But it can also be makeup artists, photographers, fashion designers, chefs, architects, hairdressers, authors, gardeners, IT professionals, singers, farmers, directors… I could go on and on. Basically, art is¬†so much more¬†than just “paint on canvas.”

We are surrounded by art. It’s everywhere!

Art is anything that allows us to express ourselves. It uses our senses, reality, hopes & dreams, frustrations, truths, weaknesses. A window into our unconscious. A way to voice ourselves when words just don’t do. An opportunity to let our emotions out whether it’s expressing happiness or fear. Sometimes art requires no thought, and is based on fun.

For me, art is freedom. It’s my escape; that secret place I can run to get away from the chaos of everyday life. Usually, I have no reason behind my art. Something random will spark the “artist” side of me and I’ll dive into a new project. It’s like my unconscious lets me know I need to escape and vent, but I’m completely unaware of this fact until I’m done. It’s then that the message behind my art speaks loudest.

I am passionate about art – about looking at it and making it. My ultimate favorite is painting, something about a blank canvas or wall with the freedom to use any mix of colors is so freeing.

a painting I made for a friend

Next I’d have to say is dying hair, any color, in any way… it’s just fun!

just highlighting my sisters hair blue (so fun!)

Then there’s drawing, making everyday things into “puzzles” that make sense to me.

a drawing I did to express keeping "depression locked away"

And then baking. ūüôā

I have a variety of art in my life and I love it! I lucked out too, my family is pretty artistic as well! Mom does it all, painting, sewing, photography, stamps… you name it, she’s good at it! Dad is a mechanic and good at carpentry… any trade really. ¬†Then there’s my sisters, they are game design majors with minors in creative writing and graphic design. And my grandparents excelled in sewing and woodworking… gosh, guess I’m blessed!

I’ve been surrounded by art my entire life, it’s always been a part of my everyday living. I can’t imagine my life without it!

Art.¬†¬†It requires no reason, no purpose. It’s something we can get away with; it helps get things off our chest, even if what is produced doesn’t make sense to anyone but ourselves.

Whether we’re making art within our jobs or during our down time, whether it’s abstract or straightforward, the art we produce is a piece of ourselves. So take a moment today and express yourself, for no reason other than because you can!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever.

Love:

affection,¬†fondness,¬†tenderness,¬†warmth, intimacy,¬†attachment,¬†endearment;¬†devotion, adoration,¬†doting,¬†idolization,¬†worship;¬†passion, ardor,¬†desire,¬†lust,¬†yearning,¬†infatuation,¬†compassion, care,¬†caring,¬†regard,¬†solicitude,¬†concern,¬†friendliness, friendship,¬†kindness,¬†charity,¬†goodwill,¬†sympathy, kindliness,¬†altruism,¬†unselfishness, ¬†humanity, ¬†beloved,¬†loved one,¬†love¬†of one’s life,¬†dear,¬†dearest,¬†dear one,¬†darling, sweetheart,¬†sweet,¬†angel,¬†honey, ¬†lover.¬†

No matter how you describe it or try to explain it, love is important!

Valentine’s Day, a day based on celebrating your love for your spouse, is also a day to celebrate your love for your family and friends. It’s a day to celebrate any form of love.

love is love.

As intense as love can be, it’s important to remember that love is also fun!

It can be humorous.

And fragile.

And sometimes (although I feel most of the time) it doesn’t make any sense! ¬†

(that’s when we should just laugh!)

Doesn’t matter how you view love, as long as you know that love is important.

And if you find yourself feeling like you’re celebrating today “alone” just remember there is someone, somewhere, out there who loves you! If you haven’t found your true love yet, [puh-lease!]¬†don’t sweat it! Embrace today for what it is, a day to celebrate love; celebrate that you are capable of love!

One way you can do that is by loving yourself!

Love takes time, so don’t rush it!¬†Take it for what it is when it comes.

But today, on this day put aside for “love,” remember that you deserve to be loved, to discover loved, to spread love. Most importantly remember to love yourself first!!!!

Sending you all hugs! Happy Valentine’s Day!

‚ÄúLove Is Louder when you get your friends to join the movement!‚ÄĚ

Many of us have heard about organizations like ‚ÄúThe Trevor Project,‚ÄĚ ‚ÄúTo Write Love on Her Arms,‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúIt Gets Better.‚ÄĚ Three organizations trying to make a ¬†difference in our world.

The basic meaning behind them? To keep the ‚Äúyou‚Äôre not alone‚ÄĚ message going.

And not just as a statement that’s thrown around because people want to care for a moment and then forget about it the next; but as a movement that people can really see. A movement that is lived daily, moment by moment, breath by breath.

For those of you who don’t know about the three organizations I mentioned here’s each of their mission statements/visions:

The Trevor Project:

“The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.”¬†www.thetrevorproject.org

To Write Love on Her Arms:

“To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. ¬†TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.”¬†www.twloha.com

It Gets Better:

“The It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach ‚Äď if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone ‚ÄĒ and it WILL get better.”¬†¬†www.itgetsbetter.org/

The latest organization I‚Äôve stumbled upon is ‚ÄúLove Is Louder.‚ÄĚ

Love is Louder:

‚ÄúLove is Louder was created by actress Brittany Snow. This movement strives to amplify the momentum of other inspiring online campaigns and invite anyone who has felt mistreated, misunderstood or isolated into the conversation. We are here to raise the volume around a critical message — that love and support is more powerful than the external and internal voices that bring us down, cause us pain and make us feel hopeless.

Anyone can raise the volume on the Love is Louder movement by joining in the conversation on Facebook and Twitter, or by uploading a brief video (30 seconds or less) at http://your.mtv.com ‚Äď telling the world what they believe love is louder than.

The more voices that join the movement, the louder the message becomes.‚Ä̬†www.loveislouder.com/

As much as a believe in and support the first three organizations above, I can‚Äôt help but whole heartedly believe in the ‚ÄúLove is Louder‚ÄĚ movement more than any other. I think this is because I firmly believe that love is louder than anything else in this world. No matter how many times i‚Äôve been knocked down, there has always been love. I‚Äôve found love in my family, friends, God, art, poetry, books, nature… you name it, love existed somewhere. Love has become my grounding factor in life.

Life will continuously knock you down, insult you, make you feel misunderstood… and while many may reciprocate with more negativity and hatred I‚Äôve chosen to respond with love. As hard as it may be, I will love those who try to bring me down, those who misunderstand me, or those who may make me feel less than I am. Because in doing so I am telling and showing the world that I believe love is louder than anything they may throw at me.

Now, don‚Äôt hear me wrong, it‚Äôs not that this movement is any more important than the others, because it’s not. But I think the message behind the “Love is Louder” movement is simple and powerful. Sometimes other organizations will ask us to donate or pledge, and sometimes we simply don’t have the funds to do so, or maybe we don’t have the strength to fully uphold the pledge they’re asking us to take. And guess what… That is okay! We all have our own daily trials to face and sometimes, adding another thing to our lives can be hard and complicated. But “love is louder” is only asking us to spread love.

It is promoting to the world that love is louder than anything else. Many people and celebrities have joined this movement… you can be one more!

Celebrity JoAnna Garcia made a video and stated,

‚ÄúWhy is is that nothing seems louder than words of hate and discrimination?¬† The truth is, nothing is louder than love. Let‚Äôs stop the hate. Stop the bullying. Stop the discrimination. Love is Louder.‚ÄĚ

In another, singer P!NK stated,

‚ÄúLove is louder than fear. Love is louder than ignorance. Love is louder than pain. Love is louder than anything. If there‚Äôs any bullies out there that really need to take their anger out on someone, come find me.‚Ä̬†http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/581450/pink-has-a-love-is-louder-message-for-fans.jhtml

So basically,¬†¬†‚ÄúLove is Louder‚ÄĚ is simply asking for your voice (and maybe a picture). Why? Because no one can take your voice from you!

Think about it, every organization out there started because someONE had an idea, that idea turned into something bigger… so take your ONE voice and turn it into a crowd. And not just a noisy crowd, but a choir – a diverse group of individuals who have come together¬†to be heard and respected¬†harmonizing over the same message.

If we believe in ourselves, that we can make a difference, no matter how small, and pass that message on… we CAN change the world. People will believe you not only when you tell them that love is louder than anything they may face in life, but when you show them that love can conquer all! We were chosen to be on this Earth, so let us love it and each other with all that we are!

We all have had someone believe in us at one time. Someone who changed our life for the better. We have all believed in someone else, tried to make their day better by acknowledging them, accepting and loving them for who they are.

Well, guess what guys – that‚Äôs all it takes! That small seed of ‚Äúacknowledgement‚ÄĚ and “love” can make all the difference in someone’s life.

There are so many people suffering out there because they feel alone and lost. Maybe they have never had someone believe in them. Maybe they‚Äôve never been shown what the power of love is…

We‚Äôve all been hurt, cut off, ignored… maybe felt like we couldn‚Äôt go on to face another day… and yet somehow we found the strength to do just that.

Help me help others by spreading that strength and Love by being a part of this movement.

My "Love is Louder" picture

I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you. And here is how to measure it Рthe greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.  John 15:13

Here’s our chance to further our love for ourselves, our love for others AND our love for Christ. Take a moment a tell someone you love them, they’re not alone, they’re perfect just as they are, and that you are there for them.

POINT OF THIS BLOG: This movement starts in Yourself.

I’m hoping, with YOUR help, to put together a video collage of pictures (or short videos) taken by YOU and those you know. If you go to the www.loveislouder.com website you can look through some of the pictures and videos taken.

Here’s the catch – it needs to be soon because the site is being updated on February 14th, that‚Äôs the deadline. My hope is to pull something together by February 13th. That‚Äôs not a lot of time! So take a quick minute to make a difference! Here’s what I’m asking:

If you want to be a part of this movement, and spread the word around your household, your community, your town, your state… the world that love is louder than all. Then take a picture with either ‚Äúlove is louder‚ÄĚ or “love is louder than ___” (you fill in the blank) written somewhere in the picture, send it my way and help be one more voice.

(Picture ideas: write ‚Äúlove is louder‚ÄĚ on you, on paper, with chalk in your driveway, on a poster, in different languages… take the picture alone, with your family, your spouse, friends, downtown, local coffee shop, with co-workers, with your pet… use different colors, maybe glitter… make the message your own!)

Communication these days is faster and slightly easier because of technology. So, between our video camera‚Äôs, regular camera‚Äôs, the camera‚Äôs on our laptops and phones, Facebook, twitter, email… we can get the word out and get pictures sent in… You may not know who I am, I may not know who you are… but we can still make a difference!

‚ÄúLove Is Louder when you get your friends to join the movement!‚ÄĚ
