Matthew 6:34 states:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Well Amen to this statement! It’s a quote a live by, and one I struggle most with. How can we not worry about tomorrow… I mean really? I’m constantly worrying about tomorrow, making “to-do” lists, trying to figure out financial things, or plan my days out… I think it’s safe to say I stress more than not.
But, it’s when life is at it’s “worst” that we should look to God because HE IS IN CONTROL. He tells us over and over again that he has a plan, a purpose for all things. We were created for a reason greater than anything we could possibly imagine.
Think back to yesterday, did you survive? Did you wake up yesterday believing that the day would be difficult? If so, and you made it to today, then isn’t that proof of God’s love and power that he has given us the strength to face our days?
Today DOES have enough troubles on it’s own. And we should spend our time facing what tasks are at hand now, not tomorrow.
Think back to last week, last month, maybe last year. Think about the things you were facing. How many times did you worry about “tomorrow” instead of living for today, only to look back and realize you made it through both “today” and “tomorrow…” ‘Cause guess what, you did!
When I think back over the worries of my life and how many times I’ve worried about tomorrow, and wasted the living I could have done today, it makes me sad. I realize that I’ve overcome a lot more than I ever thought possible, and missed out on great moments I could have lived if only I hadn’t been worrying. I’m trying to alter my way of thinking, of living. I’ve seen so many beautiful things, and I want to see more! I can’t wait to see what else is in store – and I say that with a great deal of sarcasm!
Another part of the Bible verse is:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” ~Matthew 6:25-27
So think about it, God has provided! AND he will continue to do so, as long as we have faith and trust in him! He’s right, worrying doesn’t add anything to our lives, if anything, it’s wasted time we could be spending thanking Him for all we DO have and all we are capable of doing!
So remember that worrying accomplishes nothing! Give your worries to Christ, after all, he has your future all figured out already!
